Siblings did take first priority. We have been receiving numerous phone calls about not honoring requests. We know it may be difficult to understand and we do appreciate that everyone has special circumstances, but it was next to impossible to honor these requests. The only requests we honored were for siblings. To put the number of requests into perspective, over 600 requests were made. Most of those had multiple requests. For example: Mikes mother would write “I would like my child to be with Tommy and Suzy”, Then Tommy’s mother will write, “I want Tommy with Jack and Jill”. Then Suzy’s mother writes, “I want Suzy with Kim and Kathy”. We actually had a request from “5 cousins”, who wanted to be on the same team and they all happened to live in the same neighborhood and each one had different last names. That is just the tip of the iceberg. One team had “4 assistant coaches”. We will not be making any changes from this point forward. If rides are an issue, you can still carpool since the children will be playing on the same nights as the other children they requested to be with. We apologize for having to take this stance, but up until 3 years ago, we did not take any requests at all. The first year we had a few, but the last 2 have gotten out of control. Team Parent Volunteers are in place to help assist during game time to ensure everyone receives ample playing time. Some parent volunteers are more soccer knowledgeable than others, that is why we have coordinators to help lead the instruction/training (especially at U6 and U8) Those volunteers that wish to do more coaching or assist the coordinators with instruction are encouraged to do so.
